SBP Never Ordered Freezing of Lawmakers’ Accounts — Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb told the Senate on Thursday that SBP has never ordered any bank to freeze MPs’ accounts — zero such directive exists. Answering Senator Jan Muhammad, he confirmed the only relevant circular is from July 2019 on politically exposed persons and contains no freeze order. Aurangzeb announced SBP has appointed a dedicated focal person for lawmakers’ banking issues, and all commercial banks have now named their own focal persons. These officials will guide legislators, resolve complaints, and coordinate directly with SBP. He stressed no discriminatory action has ever been taken against any current or former MP — SBP only enforces standard compliance, nothing more.
