ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) will finally tackle the super tax war on December 1, hearing FBR appeals against Sindh, Lahore, and Islamabad High Court rulings that struck down Sections 4B & 4C of the Income Tax Ordinance. A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan will decide the fate of the controversial levy first imposed in 2015 for IDPs and revived in 2022 to hit 13 “windfall” sectors — pushing corporate tax to 39% for banks, cement, sugar, oil & gas, airlines, and others earning over Rs150M. Big corporations have fought tooth and nail, calling it illegal double taxation. After years in high courts and a Supreme Court hearing in October 2025, the 27th Amendment shifted the battle to the new FCC. FBR claims it can rake in Rs250B — the entire corporate sector is watching.
