ISLAMABAD: FBR on Monday admitted thousands of taxpayers got fake SMS threats demanding Tax Year 2025 returns before September 30 — messages FBR never authorised. A technical meltdown at telecom operators triggered the bogus alerts. FBR had legitimately asked PTA on September 15 to send real reminders — all valid messages went out on time. The board is now cracking the whip on PTA and telcos to kill the glitch and stop future panic.
