PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has launched a blistering attack on alleged corruption, malpractice, and abuse of power in the Labour Department, Workers Welfare Board, and ESSI, demanding radical reforms and clarity in labour laws. SCCI President Junaid Altaf unloaded a barrage of grievances during Provincial Labour Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai’s visit to the chamber house on Wednesday, attended by SCCI leadership, former presidents, executives, and industry figures. Altaf demanded transparent policies, chamber consultation on minimum wages, region/business-specific slabs, phased implementation, one-window facilitation, end to double inspections, and trust-building. He blasted Regi Lalma Labour Colony chaos, called for SCCI representation in WWB allotment committees, stop to illegal flat transfers, scholarship overhaul, slash lavish WWB spending, fix ESSI health standards, launch skill programs, and fair audits. Altaf slammed Pak-Afghan trade route closure crippling traders and urged provincial push on federal level. He demanded real implementation of Provincial Industrial Policy 2025-2030 incentives and SCCI seats on all boards/committees. Minister Tarakai promised proactive fixes, digitalization for transparency, and close SCCI liaison to fast-track solutions.
