FBR Deploys Officers at Hospitals to Catch Tax-Evading Doctors

| 26-Dec-2025

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a full-scale invasion of private hospitals and clinics, deploying IRS officers on-site to catch doctors red-handed underreporting income after TY2025 data exposed massive tax evasion in the healthcare sector, Dawn reports. Of 319,572 registered doctors, only 130,243 (40.75%) are tax-registered, and just 56,287 (43% of registered) filed returns — 7,583 claimed zero income, while ~62% of declarers reported Rs10M. FBR invoked Section 175-C to station officers at 50 top hospitals for real-time revenue spying — high inpatient fees (rivaling 5-star hotels) are prime targets. Private notices already flying to force voluntary compliance.
