Petrol Down Rs10.60, Diesel Rs8.59 from Jan 1

KARACHI: Consumers are set for major relief starting January 1, 2026, as petroleum prices are projected to drop sharply across all major fuels — petrol could fall by up to Rs10.60 per litre at the ex-refinery level, bringing huge savings for households and transport. Projected ex-refinery cuts: Petrol (PMG) ↓ Rs10.60 to Rs146.06/litre (from Rs156.66); High-speed diesel (HSD) ↓ Rs8.59 to Rs156.33/litre (from Rs164.92); Kerosene oil ↓ Rs8.92/litre; Light diesel oil (LDO) ↓ Rs6.62/litre. Ex-depot consumer prices are expected to reflect similar relief: Petrol ↓ to ~Rs252.85/litre (from Rs263.45); Diesel ↓ to ~Rs257.06/litre (from Rs265.65). The anticipated broad-based decline will ease inflationary pressures, lower freight & logistics costs, and provide direct support to motorists, public transport, low-income households (kerosene), and industrial/agricultural users (LDO/HSD). Diesel’s drop is especially critical as it powers freight, buses, tractors, and generators — helping contain food & commodity prices. Petrol is mainly consumed by private vehicles and motorcycles, making it the most visible fuel for urban households. Kerosene oil is primarily used by low-income households in remote areas for cooking and lighting, while LDO is consumed by industrial units, generators and agricultural operations, particularly in areas facing electricity shortages. If implemented, the projected price reductions would offer a positive start to 2026, providing consumer relief and cost support across key sectors of the economy. Final prices will be confirmed after the government’s review and adjustment of taxes/levies.
