QUETTA (Monitoring Desk): Customs Enforcement authorities in Quetta, working jointly with multiple law enforcement bodies, have confiscated a substantial shipment of electronic merchandise estimated at Rs151 million, officials confirmed on Friday.

In an official statement released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), it was revealed that the seized items included 2,520 foreign-manufactured tablets recovered during the targeted operation.

The statement further noted that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against those allegedly responsible for the smuggling attempt.

Commenting on the action, the FBR stated that the operation was conducted on the basis of reliable intelligence inputs and demonstrates Customs Enforcement Quetta’s unwavering determination to combat smuggling activities and safeguard the country’s economic interests.

The press release also emphasized the contribution of provincial authorities, highlighting that the swift assistance and coordination provided by Balochistan’s law enforcement agencies were instrumental in ensuring the operation’s success.

Reaffirming its stance, Customs Enforcement Quetta pledged to maintain rigorous crackdowns against smuggling networks and illicit trade, in close collaboration with relevant enforcement institutions.

According to the statement, the recent achievements of Customs Enforcement units reflect the positive impact of the FBR’s structural reforms and the implementation of a unified enforcement command system, introduced as part of broader governmental governance reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery.

The release further outlined overall customs performance, noting that in January, Pakistan Customs achieved a record revenue collection of Rs2.31 trillion — marking a 20 percent increase compared to the same period last fiscal year — while customs duties and related taxes surged by 48 percent. It also reported that smuggled goods worth Rs41 billion have been seized so far this year, with authorities processing approximately 3.85 million containers.

The FBR’s latest announcement highlights its ongoing drive to intensify anti-smuggling operations and reinforce compliance with national trade and customs regulations.
