FPCCI Opposes Trade Rules Amendment Bill

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has voiced serious reservations regarding a proposed amendment bill to the Trade Organisation Rules 2013, arguing that introducing such changes amid ongoing economic instability is ill-timed.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh stated that the suggested amendments could result in the disbandment of district-level chambers, thereby undermining long-standing institutional frameworks. He cautioned that dismantling these bodies could negatively impact commercial activity across districts.

FPCCI leadership further emphasized that tighter controls on trade organisations may shrink representation for export-focused enterprises. Sheikh noted that the proposed revisions could also deter small and medium-sized enterprises as well as women-led businesses from active participation.

He appealed to parliamentarians to dismiss the bill and permit district chambers to function without disruption. He also urged policymakers to reassess the proposal, stressing that its consequences extend to the wider business community.
