Petrol and Diesel Prices Increased Again in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a fresh upward revision in petroleum prices, effective March 1, 2026, for the upcoming fortnight. Petrol has been increased by Rs8 per litre to Rs266.17, while High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been raised by Rs5.16 per litre to Rs280.86, further intensifying financial strain on consumers and key economic sectors.

The revised rates were issued by the Petroleum Division following recommendations submitted by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) under the prevailing petroleum pricing framework.

Motor Spirit (petrol), which is extensively used by motorcycle riders, rickshaw operators, small vehicle owners, and salaried commuters, has risen from Rs258.17 to Rs266.17 per litre. Given its widespread use among middle- and lower-income households, the increase is expected to significantly impact daily commuting expenses and operational costs for small enterprises.

Similarly, High-Speed Diesel — primarily consumed by commercial transport fleets, public buses, heavy trucks, agricultural machinery, tube wells, and railway operations — has increased from Rs275.70 to Rs280.86 per litre. As diesel is integral to goods transportation and agricultural production, its price escalation is likely to exert a cascading inflationary effect across supply chains, raising freight charges and contributing to higher prices of essential commodities, including food staples and agricultural produce.

With petrol now priced at Rs266.17 and diesel at Rs280.86 per litre, transport operators may revise fare structures, while logistics providers are expected to transfer additional costs downstream to retailers and consumers.

The agricultural sector, already navigating elevated input expenditures, may experience further financial pressure due to increased fuel costs for tractors, irrigation systems, and harvesting operations during the ongoing crop cycle.

This price adjustment occurs against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, continued volatility in international crude markets, and exchange rate fluctuations — all of which influence domestic fuel pricing under the current regulatory mechanism.

The revised petroleum prices shall remain applicable for the fortnight commencing March 1, 2026.
