Punjab Minister for Minerals, Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani, has announced the discovery of 2.8 million tola gold in a 32-kilometer-wide area of Attock, with an estimated value between Rs600-700 billion in the global market.
This exciting revelation comes as the Punjab government collaborates with the Geological Survey of Pakistan to confirm the extent of the reserves.
In an interview with an Urdu daily, Gorchani stated that to further verify the reserves' value, the government plans to hire Nespak and other firms. He also mentioned that the gold deposits would be auctioned next month, with an international advertising campaign set to attract global bidders.
The minister revealed that an auction committee, led by the Attock deputy commissioner, has already been formed, and the auction rules will be presented to the Punjab cabinet for approval in its upcoming meeting.
Gorchani also highlighted concerns about illegal gold extraction in the area, which led the Punjab government to impose Section 144 to prevent further theft. However, the situation is now under control, with no new reports of unauthorized activities
