Rs90M Luxury Car Bought for Senate Chairman

The Senate Secretariat has procured a luxury vehicle valued at approximately Rs90 million for the chairman of the Senate, with the purchase financed through allocations from the upper house’s budget, according to a report by The Express Tribune.

Sources indicated that the vehicle has already been delivered to the Secretariat in Islamabad following its procurement through the Senate’s approved budgetary resources.

Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani confirmed the acquisition and stated that the order for the vehicle had originally been placed in May of the previous year. He explained that the purchase was made using savings generated from the Senate’s prior-year budget.

Gilani further stated that he had attempted to return the vehicle in view of the country’s prevailing economic challenges. However, he was informed that the delivery had already been completed and the vehicle had arrived.

The procurement has attracted public attention in the context of ongoing debate regarding the salaries, benefits and privileges granted to senior parliamentary office holders.
