Saudi Oil Shipment Reaches Pakistan Amid Tensions

A shipment of Saudi crude oil is currently en route to Pakistan after successfully transiting the Strait of Hormuz, amid constrained maritime activity due to ongoing regional tensions, as indicated by international vessel-tracking data.

The oil tanker P. Aliki is transporting approximately 650,000 barrels of crude oil from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, representing one of the limited cargo movements through the strategic passage.

Recent data suggests that a total of seven vessels exited the Persian Gulf, comprising one crude oil tanker, two Liquefied Petroleum Gas carriers, and four bulk carriers. These vessels followed navigational routes close to the Iranian coastline, passing between the islands of Larak and Qeshm, reflecting increased maritime oversight by Iran.

Authorities in Tehran are reportedly considering the imposition of transit fees on vessels seeking secure passage through the strait, which may have implications for international shipping costs and trade flows.

Shipping volumes through the Strait of Hormuz remain below pre-conflict levels. Monitoring activity has also become more complex due to signal disruptions and vessels disabling tracking systems in high-risk zones.

Despite these disruptions, Iran-linked crude exports have continued at an estimated rate of approximately 1.6 million barrels per day during the initial 23 days of March.

Separately, reports indicate that Iran has permitted several vessels to depart the Gulf, including seven Malaysian tankers and 20 Pakistan-flagged ships. Additionally, two LPG carriers are reportedly en route to India, while multiple bulk carriers, including Iranian-flagged vessels, have also exited the region.
