K-Electric Case Referred to NEPRA Tribunal

The Sindh High Court has disposed of constitutional petitions filed by K-Electric and directed the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal to adjudicate the company’s pending appeals within a period of three months, as disclosed in a filing submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The petitions pertained to review determinations issued by National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on October 20, 2025, which were subsequently challenged by K-Electric before the court.

Pursuant to its order dated April 2, 2026, the High Court has referred the matter to the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal, which has recently commenced operations, for adjudication in accordance with the applicable provisions of the NEPRA Act, 1997.

The Court further held that the interim relief previously granted—restraining any coercive measures against the company—shall continue to remain in force until the tribunal renders a final determination on the pending appeals.

It is noted that K-Electric had originally instituted multiple petitions in November 2025 seeking judicial relief against the regulator’s review decisions. The present development effectively transfers jurisdiction to the designated appellate forum for conclusive adjudication within a prescribed timeframe.
