FBR Intensifies Recovery Drive Amid Rs683B Shortfall

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated a series of enforcement-driven measures to strengthen revenue collection amid a reported shortfall of Rs683 billion in the მიმდინარე fiscal year.

An urgent meeting, chaired by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, was convened at FBR headquarters on Monday, bringing together senior officials to assess revenue mobilisation strategies for the remaining period of FY2025–26.

During the session, officials deliberated on enforcement actions to be implemented in May and June, with particular emphasis on the recovery of outstanding tax arrears.

Sources indicated that the FBR is considering action against taxpayers with pending liabilities where court-granted stays have expired and legal remedies have been exhausted. Proposed measures may include the attachment of bank accounts and other recovery mechanisms in cases of continued non-compliance.

The board is expected to issue directives to its field formations to intensify recovery efforts, especially in matters where more than six months have elapsed since the expiry of legal stays.

Officials clarified that these steps do not involve the imposition of new taxes or the introduction of a mini-budget, but are focused on enhancing revenue collection through the recovery of existing dues before the close of the fiscal year.
