NHA Increases M-2 Motorway Toll Rates by 7%

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has officially revised toll charges for commuters using the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2), introducing a 7% increase effective from July 5, 2026.

According to the authority’s notification, the updated toll schedule will remain in force until April 23, 2027. The revision has been implemented in accordance with the concession agreement executed on April 23, 2014 between the NHA and Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

The agreement relates to the rehabilitation, overlay, and modernisation of the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway under a 20-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement. As stipulated in the agreement, the toll adjustment has been applied during the 13th year of the concession period through a 7% upward revision.

Under the revised toll structure, cars, jeeps, and taxis will now pay Rs1,430, translating to a toll rate of Rs3.98 per kilometre. Wagons will be charged Rs2,390 at Rs6.68 per kilometre, while coasters will pay Rs3,350 at a rate of Rs9.34 per kilometre.

Bus operators will be required to pay Rs4,770, calculated at Rs13.32 per kilometre. Meanwhile, two- and three-axle trucks will be subject to a toll of Rs6,210 at Rs17.33 per kilometre, whereas articulated trucks will pay Rs7,980, equivalent to Rs22.29 per kilometre.

The revised toll rates have been announced shortly after the Islamabad High Court suspended an NHA notification that proposed an additional 50% toll surcharge on vehicles using motorways without a valid M-Tag or with insufficient balance in their M-Tag accounts.

The High Court has directed both the federal government and the NHA to submit their responses in the matter, with further proceedings scheduled for August 3.
