Senate Reviews Policy on Non-Custom-Paid Vehicle Allocation

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control examined the existing policy relating to the allocation of non-custom-paid and tampered vehicles to various government departments during a recent committee meeting.

During the briefing, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials informed the committee that such vehicles are allocated to government departments and designated official positions rather than to individual officers, in accordance with directives issued by the courts.

The officials further stated that responsibility for future allocations of these vehicles would be transferred from the FBR to the Cabinet Division. However, vehicles that have already been allocated to the police and other government departments will continue to remain with the respective institutions in compliance with orders issued by the Supreme Court.

Following the discussion, the committee directed the FBR to furnish a comprehensive record of all non-custom-paid vehicles allocated to government departments to date. It also sought clarification on whether any future allocations under the revised policy framework would require formal approval from the federal cabinet.
