Government Raises Petrol and Diesel Prices by Over Rs13

The federal government has announced a substantial increase in the prices of petroleum products, raising the ex-depot rates of both Motor Spirit (petrol) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) for a one-week period effective July 11, 2026, adding further pressure on consumers and businesses amid persistent inflationary conditions.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs13.80 per litre, raising the ex-depot rate from Rs309.50 to Rs323.30 per litre.

Likewise, the price of Motor Spirit (petrol) has been increased by Rs13.18 per litre, taking the ex-depot price to Rs310.71 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Rs297.53 per litre.

The revised petroleum prices came into effect on July 11, 2026, and will remain applicable for the coming week under the government's weekly petroleum pricing mechanism.

The latest upward revision is expected to intensify inflationary pressures across the economy, as higher fuel prices typically increase transportation costs, freight charges, manufacturing expenses, and the overall cost of supplying goods and services.

High-Speed Diesel serves as the primary fuel for heavy commercial transport, buses, trucks, tractors, tube wells, and agricultural machinery. Consequently, any significant increase in diesel prices directly raises logistics costs, agricultural input expenses, and supply chain costs, ultimately contributing to higher consumer prices.

Petrol remains the principal fuel for motorcycles, passenger cars, rickshaws, and light commercial vehicles. The latest increase is therefore expected to raise daily commuting expenses for millions of motorists while placing additional strain on household budgets.

The Petroleum Division issued the revised pricing notification following the federal government's approval of the updated ex-depot prices for petroleum products.
