LHC Allows Judges to Buy Official Vehicles at Subsidised Prices

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has approved a scheme allowing nearly 2,000 judicial officers across Punjab to purchase their officially allotted government vehicles at subsidised prices ranging between Rs250,000 and Rs350,000, according to media reports.

The approval was communicated through a 74-page circular dated July 11, 2026, issued under reference No. 10048/TMF-P&D-11/DDJ.

The scheme is available to officers serving in the subordinate judiciary, including District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges, and Family Judges.

Judicial officers serving in specialised courts—including Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Special Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts, and Labour Courts—have also been declared eligible under the programme.

In addition, the concession extends to Punjab judicial officers currently serving on deputation at the Islamabad High Court, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Constitutional Court, and the federal and provincial law ministries.

Eligible officers will be permitted to purchase the Suzuki Alto, Toyota Corolla, and Honda City vehicles presently allocated to them as official transport.

The circular clarifies that ownership of the vehicles will continue to vest with the Lahore High Court until the purchase process has been completed in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

The Director General, Directorate of District Judiciary, has instructed all eligible judicial officers to submit pay orders in favour of the Registrar, Lahore High Court, no later than July 22, 2026.

According to official figures, Punjab’s judiciary comprises 147 District and Sessions Judges, approximately 500 Additional District and Sessions Judges, 110 Senior Civil Judges, and nearly 1,000 Civil Judges, Family Judges, and Judicial Magistrates.

Following the announcement of the scheme, judicial officers and court staff reportedly began approaching banks to obtain the required pay orders for participation in the purchase process.
