Rs204 Billion Approved Under Apna Ghar Scheme

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Tuesday that banks have approved Rs204 billion in housing finance under the Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme, with Rs27 billion already released to beneficiaries. The update was shared during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to assess the programme's implementation and progress.

The prime minister said the initiative was introduced to enable low- and middle-income families to achieve homeownership. Officials informed the meeting that the Ministry of Housing and Works, together with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), is conducting weekly review sessions to monitor implementation, address challenges and ensure smooth execution of the scheme.

PM Shehbaz instructed the relevant authorities to speed up work on the programme, describing affordable housing for ordinary citizens as one of the government's highest priorities. He also urged both public and private sector banks to expand financing support and make housing loans more accessible to eligible families.

The premier further directed officials to prepare a comprehensive roadmap covering both vertical and horizontal housing developments under the scheme, emphasizing the importance of practical, sustainable and long-term housing solutions to accommodate the country's growing population.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to providing affordable housing for low- and middle-income households, the prime minister stressed that close coordination among all concerned institutions would be critical to ensuring the timely completion and overall success of the programme.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Pirzada, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Kayani, along with senior government officials.
