Punjab Forms Asset Management Body

The Punjab government has enacted the Asset Management Authority of Punjab Ordinance, 2026, creating a statutory authority with extensive powers to identify, acquire, manage, develop, monetise and dispose of provincial government assets valued in the trillions of rupees.

The newly established authority will function through transparent, market-driven mechanisms designed to attract both domestic and foreign investment, boost non-tax revenues, create employment opportunities and contribute to long-term economic growth across the province.

The ordinance was promulgated by the Governor of Punjab under Article 128(1) of the Constitution during a period when the Provincial Assembly was not in session. It took effect immediately throughout Punjab upon promulgation.

According to the ordinance's preamble, the legislation aims to establish a comprehensive institutional framework for the efficient management and productive utilisation of government assets by encouraging partnerships with local and international private investors. The objective is to unlock the commercial value of public assets, strengthen provincial revenues and exports, improve public service delivery and promote sustainable economic development.
