The federal government has named Faiz Ahmad, a senior official from Pakistan Customs Service, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). Ahmad, a BS-22 officer, will take on this role on a deputation basis under the usual terms and conditions, as announced by the Cabinet Division on Monday.
This position became available after Zubair Motiwala, a well-known industrialist from Karachi, resigned last week, citing personal reasons and a desire to dedicate more time to his private business. Motiwala, who took over as TDAP’s CEO in November 2022, confirmed his departure to a local news outlet, stating, “Yes, I resigned to focus fully on my own business.”
Motiwala, an experienced textile exporter and industrialist, has been a major figure in Pakistan’s business scene. His leadership history includes roles such as president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), chairperson of the SITE Association of Industry, and chairperson of the Sindh Board of Investment.
The appointment of Faiz Ahmad is seen as part of the government’s broader efforts to reform and strengthen TDAP, an agency essential for boosting Pakistan’s export industry. Ahmad is expected to bring new ideas to the authority’s operations, with a particular focus on improving efficiency and addressing the challenges faced by exporters
