Non-Filer Influencers Face 10% Tax on Social Media Income

Non-filer digital content creators and social media influencers will face a 10% withholding tax on income received through social media platforms from July 1, 2026, according to the Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) updated Withholding Tax Card 2026.

The revised tax card incorporates amendments introduced through the Finance Act 2026, with the updated rates applicable through June 30, 2026.

Under Section 154B of the Income Tax Ordinance, which covers income earned through social media platforms, digital creators and influencers who are listed on the FBR's Active Taxpayers List will be subject to a 5% withholding tax on their platform revenues.

Those who are not included on the Active Taxpayers List will face a higher withholding rate of 10%.

The updated FBR card also includes revised withholding tax rates for other areas, including income earned by salaried individuals and transactions involving the purchase and sale of immovable property in the real estate sector.
