Diesel Gets Costlier as Petrol Price Falls

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs1.39 per litre while reducing petrol by Rs1.70 per litre under the revised petroleum pricing mechanism.

According to the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products, with the new rates taking effect from August 12, 2026.

The price of HSD has increased from Rs380.86 to Rs382.25 per litre, marking a rise of Rs1.39 per litre.

The increase is expected to affect heavy transport operators, farmers and other diesel users, as HSD is widely consumed by trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, generators and other diesel-powered equipment.

Meanwhile, the ex-depot price of Motor Spirit (petrol) has been reduced by Rs1.70 per litre, falling from Rs327.62 to Rs325.92 per litre.

The petrol reduction provides some relief to motorists, particularly users of cars, motorcycles, rickshaws and other light vehicles.

The Petroleum Division said the latest adjustment was made under the federal government's revised petroleum pricing mechanism, through which OGRA determines ex-depot fuel prices.

Under the new rates, HSD will be available at Rs382.25 per litre, while petrol will cost Rs325.92 per litre.
