Petrol, Diesel Prices Rise on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has raised petrol prices by Rs0.45 per litre and High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs1.16 per litre, taking their revised ex-depot rates to Rs325.43 and Rs383.95 per litre respectively for Independence Day.

The Petroleum Division said the latest adjustment was calculated by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) under the petroleum pricing mechanism recently approved by the federal government.

Following the revision, the ex-depot price of Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, has climbed from Rs324.98 to Rs325.43 per litre, reflecting an increase of Rs0.45 per litre.

Likewise, the ex-depot rate of High Speed Diesel has moved up from Rs382.79 to Rs383.95 per litre, marking a rise of Rs1.16 per litre.

The new petroleum prices will come into effect from August 14, 2026.

With the latest increase, petrol has moved above the Rs325-per-litre threshold, while HSD has reached Rs383.95 per litre at the ex-depot level.

According to the Petroleum Division, OGRA carried out the latest price revision in line with the revised petroleum pricing framework introduced by the federal government.

The latest decision means both of the country’s major petroleum products have become more expensive on Independence Day, with the per-litre increase in HSD being more than twice the rise recorded for petrol.

Prior to the adjustment, petrol was being sold at an ex-depot price of Rs324.98 per litre, while HSD stood at Rs382.79 per litre.
