Punjab Abolishes 101 BS-17 Section Officer Posts

LAHORE: The Punjab government has eliminated 101 posts of Section Officers (BS-17) across multiple provincial administrative departments and the South Punjab Secretariat, The News reported, citing a notification issued by the Punjab Finance Department.

The abolished positions were included in the sanctioned cadre strength of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).

The restructuring affects a wide range of provincial departments, including Agriculture, the Chief Minister’s Office, Communication and Works, Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Finance, Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Health and Population, Higher Education, Home, Housing and Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering.

Other departments affected include Industries, Commerce and Investment, Information and Culture, Irrigation, Local Government and Community Development, Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, Livestock and Dairy Development, Mines and Minerals, the Planning and Development Board, Public Prosecution, School Education, Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal, and Women Development.

The measure also extends to the South Punjab Secretariat, where Section Officer positions have been removed from the Agriculture, Communication and Works, and Finance departments.

According to the Finance Department’s notification, the restructuring results in the abolition of 101 Section Officer positions in total across the affected administrative units.
