Petrol and Diesel Prices Cut for Three Days

The federal government has reduced petrol and High-Speed Diesel prices by Rs0.58 and Rs0.17 per litre, respectively, with the new rates taking effect for a three-day period from August 29 to August 31, 2026.

According to the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the federal government’s updated petroleum pricing mechanism.

The ex-depot price of Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, has been lowered from Rs342.60 to Rs342.02 per litre, representing a reduction of Rs0.58.

Meanwhile, the price of High-Speed Diesel has declined from Rs371.61 to Rs371.44 per litre, resulting in a cut of Rs0.17 per litre.

The revised rates will remain in effect from August 29 through August 31, meaning consumers will benefit from the latest reduction for only three days before another possible revision under the current pricing system.

Petrol is widely used across Pakistan by motorcycles, private vehicles, taxis, rickshaws and other light transport. As a result, changes in petrol prices can have a direct impact on the everyday commuting and transportation expenses of millions of people.

High-Speed Diesel has a wider role in the productive economy and is heavily consumed by trucks, buses, tractors, agricultural machinery, generators and other heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Its price therefore has particular importance for the transport, agriculture and industrial sectors.

The transport industry is a major consumer of HSD, with trucks and buses depending on diesel to carry passengers and goods across the country. Any movement in diesel prices can consequently influence freight rates and broader transportation expenses.

Agriculture also relies significantly on diesel, particularly for tractors, tube-wells and other machinery used in farming operations. Changes in HSD prices can therefore affect farmers’ operating expenses and the overall cost of agricultural production.

Despite the latest revision, the relief for consumers remains limited. Petrol has fallen by just 58 paisa per litre, while HSD has dropped by 17 paisa. Furthermore, the reduced rates will remain applicable for only three days.

Under the latest notification, petrol will be priced at Rs342.02 per litre and High-Speed Diesel at Rs371.44 per litre between August 29 and August 31, 2026.
