Petrol up Rs2.29 & Diesel up Rs1.11 for September 3

ISLAMABAD: Petrol and High Speed Diesel (HSD) prices have both been increased under Pakistan’s revised petroleum pricing mechanism, with petrol rising by Rs2.29 per litre and diesel by Rs1.11 per litre. The revised rates will take effect from September 3, 2026.

According to the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has adjusted the ex-depot prices of petroleum products in accordance with the federal government’s revised pricing mechanism.

The price of Motor Spirit, commonly referred to as petrol, has increased from Rs343.87 to Rs346.16 per litre, representing an increase of Rs2.29. Meanwhile, HSD has risen from Rs370.92 to Rs372.03 per litre, reflecting an increase of Rs1.11 per litre.

The latest adjustment means consumers will face higher prices for two of Pakistan’s most widely used fuels. The revised rates will remain applicable from September 3 under the current pricing system.

Petrol is extensively used for private transportation, including cars, motorcycles and other small vehicles. It is also widely consumed by rickshaws and light transport operators. Because millions of households and daily commuters depend on petrol, changes in its price can directly affect transportation expenses.

Higher petrol prices can also increase operating costs for ride-hailing services, private transport providers and small businesses that rely on petrol-powered vehicles for commuting, deliveries and other activities.

HSD has an even wider economic impact because it is heavily used by trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles. Diesel-powered transport is essential for moving agricultural products, industrial goods, construction materials and other commodities throughout the country.

Diesel is also widely used in agriculture to operate tractors, tube wells and other machinery. Generators and other equipment also depend on diesel in areas where grid electricity is unavailable or inadequate. As a result, diesel price changes can influence transportation, farming and production costs.

The latest increase comes as fuel prices remain a major concern for consumers, transport operators, farmers and businesses. Rising petroleum costs can increase the expense of transporting people and goods, placing additional pressure on household finances and business operations.

Under the Petroleum Division’s latest notification, petrol will now cost Rs346.16 per litre from September 3, compared with Rs343.87 previously, while HSD will be priced at Rs372.03 per litre against the earlier rate of Rs370.92.

Pakistan currently uses a daily petroleum pricing mechanism that allows domestic fuel rates to be adjusted in response to international oil prices and other relevant pricing factors. The system was introduced to enable local fuel prices to respond more rapidly to changes in global market conditions.
