Electricity Tariff Raised By Re0.5194 Per Unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a positive quarterly tariff adjustment of Re0.5194 per unit, enabling electricity companies to recover approximately Rs12.669 billion from consumers over a three-month period.

The adjustment, related to the second quarter of calendar year 2026, will be charged to eligible consumers of power distribution companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric during September, October and November 2026.

Nepra notified the decision through a statutory regulatory order issued on Monday after considering requests submitted by DISCOs for quarterly tariff adjustments for the second quarter of CY2026.

The regulator approved the adjustment under the relevant provisions of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997. The decision had been communicated to the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division on September 4, 2026.

The total approved recovery of Rs12.669 billion includes variations in capacity charges, variable operation and maintenance costs, Use of System Charges (UoSC), Market Operator Fee and the impact of Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) on transmission and distribution losses.

The amount also includes recovery of Power Purchase Price (PPP) on additional electricity units, along with the reversal of Captive Power Plants (CPPs) and Small Power Producers (SPPs) costs for the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO).

The entire amount will be recovered from eligible consumers at a uniform rate of Re0.5194 per kilowatt-hour over the three-month period.

The quarterly adjustment will apply to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, prepaid consumers and electricity units billed under the incremental consumption package.

Nepra has also extended the adjustment to K-Electric customers in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Nepra Act, National Electricity Policy and federal government policy guidelines.

As a result, eligible K-Electric consumers will also face the additional Re0.5194 per unit charge during September, October and November. The same exemptions will apply to lifeline and prepaid consumers as well as units covered under the incremental consumption package.

Nepra stated that if electricity bills for an applicable period were issued before the adjustment was notified, the amount may instead be recovered through the following month’s bill.

The regulator has directed the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), DISCOs and K-Electric to strictly follow all applicable court orders while implementing the approved tariff adjustment.
