The Excise and Taxation Department has ramped up efforts to target token tax defaulters, with Director General Umar Sher Chattha instructing a suspension of vehicle registrations for those who fail to pay.
Reports indicate that Chattha has instructed enforcement teams to seize vehicles from major defaulters and levy fines on those who have not paid for over a year, emphasizing that strict measures will be taken without exceptions.
Looking at recent operations, Chattha revealed that from January 1 to January 25, 2025, excise teams established 1,051 checkpoints throughout Punjab, inspecting 173,411 vehicles. Of these, 5,427 were unregistered, 18,958 had outstanding token taxes, and 9,156 vehicles were using fake license plates.
The department has urged vehicle owners to settle their dues to avoid facing penalties or having their vehicles impounded
