Petrol Reaches Rs375.82, Diesel Crosses Rs400 Per Litre

ISLAMABAD: The government has raised petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices by Rs5.02 and Rs5.28 per litre, respectively, for the three-day period from September 12 to September 14. The latest adjustment has taken the cumulative increase during the current week to Rs29.95 for petrol and Rs25.27 for diesel.

The Petroleum Division stated that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices under the federal government’s petroleum pricing framework. The updated rates will remain applicable from September 12 through September 14, 2026.

Following the revision, petrol has become more expensive by Rs5.02 per litre, rising from Rs370.80 to Rs375.82. The price of HSD has increased by Rs5.28, moving from Rs398.04 to Rs403.32 per litre.

The latest decision has pushed diesel beyond the Rs400-per-litre threshold, creating additional financial pressure for transport operators, farmers, businesses and other sectors that depend heavily on diesel.

The increase has also added significantly to the overall rise in fuel prices recorded this week. Compared with the rates effective on September 7, petrol has climbed from Rs345.87 to Rs375.82 per litre, representing a five-day increase of Rs29.95.

During the same period, HSD prices rose from Rs378.05 to Rs403.32 per litre, reflecting a cumulative increase of Rs25.27.

These increases follow successive price revisions announced for September 8, 9, 10 and 11, followed by the latest three-day adjustment covering September 12 to 14.

Unless another change is announced under the government’s daily pricing system, consumers will pay Rs375.82 per litre for petrol and Rs403.32 per litre for HSD during the current three-day period.

Petrol is widely used by motorcycles, cars, rickshaws and other light vehicles. Repeated price increases therefore directly affect commuters, households and private vehicle owners. Businesses and service providers using petrol-powered transport will also face higher operational and transportation expenses.

The impact of rising HSD prices is broader because diesel powers trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, farm machinery, construction equipment and other heavy-duty vehicles. The latest Rs5.28 increase is consequently expected to raise freight, public transport, agricultural and construction costs.

The Petroleum Division linked the latest adjustment to movements in international oil prices and other pricing components, including Platts rates, premiums and incidental costs.

The sharp increase in both products within five days comes as the government moves toward more frequent petroleum price revisions. This mechanism allows domestic fuel rates to respond more quickly to changes in international oil markets and related factors.

As a result of the latest decision, the total weekly increase stands at Rs29.95 per litre for petrol and Rs25.27 per litre for HSD. The revised prices will apply for three days, from September 12 to September 14, 2026.
