Court Grants NBP Pensioners Government Pension Increases

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan (FCC) has rejected an appeal filed by the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), ruling in favour of the bank’s pensioners and allowing them to receive government-announced increases in their pensions.

NBP informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) about the development on Thursday, stating that the court delivered its reserved judgment on September 16, 2026.

The case concerns Civil Appeal No. 1688/2021, titled National Bank of Pakistan & others vs. Khawaja Abdul Hameed Nasir & others.

According to NBP’s disclosure, the dismissal of the bank’s appeal means its pensioners are entitled to government increases applicable to their pensions.

The bank said in its notice that the Federal Constitutional Court had announced the judgment reserved in the case on September 16 and dismissed NBP’s appeal, consequently establishing the pensioners’ entitlement to government pension increases.

NBP, however, said that the full text of the court’s judgment has not yet been received.

The bank’s disclosure did not provide details regarding the financial implications of the ruling. It remains unclear how many NBP pensioners will be affected, the size of the pension increases involved, or whether the judgment will require the bank to make any retrospective payments.
