PRA To Deploy 250 Officers To Strengthen Tax Enforcement

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) is set to deploy 250 Enforcement and Audit Officers next month as part of an expansion designed to improve tax collection, strengthen compliance and enhance digital monitoring across the province.

According to reports, the newly appointed officers will focus on sectors that currently contribute relatively less revenue, with the aim of improving tax recovery and ensuring greater compliance with applicable tax laws.

The decision was made during a meeting on expanding the authority’s administrative capacity, chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra.

Under the planned expansion, the PRA will reinforce its enforcement and monitoring structure from the divisional level to districts, while making greater use of technology in tax administration and compliance monitoring.

The authority also intends to step up action against fraudulent activities and irregularities linked to tax payments.

The expansion of the Enforcement and Audit Wings is expected to improve the PRA’s administrative capabilities and provide additional support for its revenue collection operations.

In addition, the PRA will utilise its Digital Central Monitoring Cell to electronically examine records from different service sectors. The system will help authorities identify potential tax fraud, inconsistencies in reported information and possible misappropriation of revenue.

The authority is increasingly focusing on administrative restructuring and technology-based monitoring as it moves towards a more digitally driven system for tax collection, enforcement and compliance across Punjab.
