Petrol Rises to Rs393.64, Diesel Falls to Rs397.76

The government has revised petroleum prices for October 6, raising petrol by 88 paisas to Rs393.64 per litre while cutting the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre under the daily fuel pricing mechanism.

According to the Petroleum Division, petrol has increased from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre, whereas HSD has fallen from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76 per litre.

The Petroleum Division attributed the latest adjustments to developments in international oil markets, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and other related costs.

With the revision, both major fuels remain near the Rs400-per-litre level, although their impact differs across consumers and economic sectors because of their different uses.

Petrol is mainly consumed by motorcycles, cars, rickshaws and other light vehicles, making its price particularly important for household budgets and daily commuting. Taxis, ride-hailing services and small commercial vehicles also rely heavily on petrol.

For someone buying 20 litres of petrol, the 88-paisa increase means an additional expense of Rs17.60.

HSD, on the other hand, is widely used by trucks, buses, heavy transport vehicles, agricultural machinery, construction equipment and various commercial and industrial operations.

The Rs1.88-per-litre reduction in diesel could lower operating expenses for freight companies and businesses that rely heavily on HSD. Purchasing 100 litres at the new rate would result in a saving of Rs188.

Diesel prices also influence wider transportation and supply-chain expenses because heavy vehicles are responsible for moving agricultural produce, food, petroleum products, construction materials, industrial goods and other consumer products throughout the country.

The agriculture sector is another major user of diesel, with tractors, tube-well pumps and other machinery depending on the fuel. Changes in HSD prices can therefore affect expenses related to cultivation, irrigation, harvesting and the transportation of farm produce.

At the revised rates, 100 litres of petrol will cost Rs39,364, while 100 litres of diesel will cost Rs39,776.

Under the daily pricing system, movements in international petroleum markets can be reflected more frequently in domestic fuel prices. With petrol now priced at Rs393.64 and diesel at Rs397.76 per litre for October 6, fuel remains a major expense for households, transport operators and businesses across Pakistan.
