Only 1,016 Retailers File Under Rs50bn FBR Scheme

Only 1,016 retailers and shopkeepers have so far filed tax returns under the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Aasan Tax Scheme, generating just Rs86 million against the government’s Rs50 billion collection target for the current fiscal year.

The FBR presented the figures to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during discussions for the fourth review of Pakistan’s $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

According to reports citing sources, the IMF mission requested an update from the Ministry of Finance and FBR regarding progress on the Retailers Fixed Scheme.

Of the 1,016 retailers who have submitted returns under the scheme, just 91 are new filers. The total amount of tax collected through the initiative has reached Rs86 million.

The limited participation comes despite the scheme’s significant revenue target for the ongoing fiscal year.

Under the tax rules applicable to the scheme, retailers who do not avail themselves of the facility within the prescribed deadline face progressively higher penalties. The fine is Rs10,000 during the first month, Rs25,000 in the second month and Rs50,000 in the third month.

The FBR has also extended the deadline for filing income tax returns from September 30 to October 15, 2026, providing retailers with additional time to file their returns and participate in the scheme.
