In January 2025, the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) achieved a historic Rs22.21 billion in Punjab Sales Tax collection, representing a 21% year-over-year increase from Rs18.39 billion in January 2024. This achievement marks the highest-ever monthly tax collection for the authority.
So far this fiscal year, PRA has accumulated Rs142 billion in tax revenue, reflecting a 12% growth compared to the same period last year. The breakdown of growth includes a 10% increase in Punjab Sales Tax, a 30% surge in the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess, and an impressive 46% rise in the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund.
Notably, no new taxes or rate hikes were imposed this year. Instead, PRA focused on engaging with taxpayers, running awareness campaigns, and expanding the tax base to reach its targets. The authority is confident it will exceed its annual tax collection goal.
To support its digital transformation, PRA launched the IRIS system for filing tax returns, which enhances transparency and efficiency. Furthermore, the integration of PRA’s Electronic Invoice Monitoring System with the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Point of Sale (POS) system aims to improve tax data access.
In addition, the Single Sales Tax Return system has been extended to sectors like Oil & Gas, microfinance, insurance, and banking, with plans for further expansion to more sectors
