Federal Government Expands POS System to AJK, Enhancing Digital Taxation and Transparency

The federal government has extended its Point-of-Sale (POS) system to businesses in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), bringing them into Pakistan’s growing digital taxation network. This initiative, spearheaded by Pakistan Revenue Automation (Pvt) Ltd (PRAL) in partnership with the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) AJK, is aimed at modernizing tax collection, improving transparency, and reducing tax evasion.

PRAL officially launched the POS system at Khaadi and KFC in Mirpur, marking the initial phase of a larger rollout across AJK. This initiative aligns with the government’s national goal to digitize economic transactions and ensure that all business activities are documented in real-time.

The launch events were attended by senior government officials, PRAL leaders, and business figures, including Most Senior Minister Col (R) Waqar Noor, Minister for Development Azhar Sadiq, Minister for Law Mian Waheed, and members of the Chamber of Commerce. PRAL's senior team, including General Manager-SD Abid Naeem and Head of Commercials Farheen Azhar, also participated.

Speakers at the event emphasized that the POS system represents more than just a technological upgrade—it's a key step towards enhancing economic resilience and financial accountability. The system digitizes transactions, reducing human errors and minimizing revenue losses.

The government’s broader plan to develop a digital economy involves expanding the POS network nationwide, aiming to create a more inclusive and transparent financial ecosystem. PRAL has pledged to continue supporting this push for digital transformation.

Following the inauguration, discussions were held on future steps to further integrate AJK into the digital framework, ensuring that the region can benefit from better financial documentation and streamlined business operations.
