The Directorate of Valuation, Pakistan Customs, has committed to shifting valuation assessments from Karachi to Lahore, offering much-needed relief to the trading community.
During an address at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Director General Syed Hamid Ali assured traders that valuation procedures would now be conducted with greater transparency and fairness, ensuring accurate price assessments for imported goods.
Additionally, he announced plans to expand the operational capacity of the Lahore office to enhance service delivery for local traders.
LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad highlighted concerns regarding the current valuation methods, noting that reliance on market surveys and the Work Back Method often fails to reflect actual import costs.
He further emphasized that bulk shipment rates, as recorded in import documentation, should be factored into valuation decisions to prevent discrepancies.
Advocating for stronger collaboration, he urged ongoing engagement between customs authorities and the business sector, suggesting regular meetings to address valuation challenges more effectively.
