A five-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court will start hearing petitions against Sections 4B and 4C of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, from Monday, March 10.
The bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, includes Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Aamer Farooq.
🔹 Section 4B (Super Tax), introduced in 2015 by the PML-N government, imposes a 4% tax on banking companies and 3% on other sectors for businesses earning above Rs 500 million. It was meant to fund rehabilitation efforts for temporarily displaced persons.
🔹 Section 4C, also under scrutiny, has 182 petitions challenging its legitimacy.
Previously, a three-judge bench led by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah questioned delays in final decisions by high courts regarding the Super Tax under Section 4C. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated that intra-court appeals (ICAs) on this matter are still pending in the Lahore High Court (LHC) and Islamabad High Court (IHC).
📅 Next Key Date: The IHC will hear ICAs on May 28.
