National Savings Schemes See Drop in February Inflows

| 28-Mar-2025

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported today that net savings through National Savings Schemes (NSS) dropped to Rs23.33 billion in February, compared to Rs31.16 billion in January.

This decrease comes from lower investments in major savings options. Regular Income Certificates (RIC) brought in Rs6.63 billion and Special Savings Certificates (SSC) gained Rs3.51 billion, but Defence Saving Certificates (DSC) saw a net loss of Rs1.03 billion as withdrawals outpaced deposits.

Prize Bonds contributed Rs2.55 billion to the total, while other NSS categories together pulled in Rs11.67 billion—down sharply from January’s Rs16.21 billion.

NSS has long been a popular choice for people looking for safe returns, but these ups and downs in savings suggest investors might be reacting to changes in interest rates or the broader economy.
