FBR Extends Sales Tax and Federal Excise Return Deadline to April 25, 2025

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declared a critical extension for the submission of Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the March 2025 tax period, shifting the deadline to April 25, 2025. The FBR issued detailed directives to Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to enforce the change.

This extension covers both Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for March 2025, originally due on April 18, 2025, but requires prompt payment of due tax liabilities by the original deadline. Additionally, the FBR has further extended the deadline for February 2025 returns, previously moved from March 18, 2025, to April 13, 2025, now also set for April 25, 2025, with the same payment condition applied.

These measures, authorized under Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005, reflect the FBR’s strategic flexibility to support taxpayers while ensuring timely revenue collection.
