RTO-1 Uncovers Rs315B Sales Tax Fraud in Iron and Steel Sector

The Regional Tax Office-1 (RTO-1) has exposed a massive sales tax fraud valued at Rs315 billion in the iron and steel sector, orchestrated by two individuals with support from their brother and cousin. An additional accomplice has been arrested in connection with the scheme.

The accused were brought before the Special Court of Customs, Taxation, and Anti-Smuggling, where the Special Judge ordered jail custody for two suspects, while granting a seven-day physical remand for one accomplice, handing them over to RTO-1 for deeper investigation.

RTO-1 has initiated a rigorous investigation to uncover other involved parties and track the beneficiaries of the fraud. Chief Commissioner Dr Faheem Mohammad commended the team’s successful operation, underscoring RTO-1’s unyielding commitment to tackling sales tax fraud and ensuring accountability.

This probe aims to deliver a powerful deterrent, signaling zero tolerance for illicit activities in the sector.
