The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended tax exemptions under Sections 236C and 236K of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, to overseas Pakistanis not included in the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).
As per a recent FBR notification, non-resident Pakistanis holding Pakistan Origin Cards (POC) or National ID Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) are now exempt under Clause 111AC of the ordinance.
To streamline this process, the FBR has launched a digital verification system via its IRIS platform. Non-residents must upload their POC or NICOP details while generating their Computerized Payment Receipt (CPR). The system will then generate a provisional PSID, initiating a verification process to be completed within one business day.
“This marks a significant step in simplifying procedures for overseas Pakistanis,” an FBR official stated.
The verification process includes multiple layers of review. Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue (CCIRs) initially assess applications before forwarding them to Commissioners of Inland Revenue (CIRs) for final approval. Applicants are informed of decisions via SMS and email upon approval.
The system has been implemented nationwide across all tax offices, including Large Taxpayers’ Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers’ Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), ensuring accessibility for eligible overseas Pakistanis.
This policy aims to eliminate bureaucratic barriers for overseas Pakistanis while encouraging investment in Pakistan's real estate sector.
