| 11-Sep-2025

Scheduled banks in Pakistan witnessed a 3.4% decline in total deposits, plummeting to Rs34.28 trillion in July 2025 from Rs35.5 trillion in June, as per central bank data. Yet, on a year-on-year basis, deposits surged 12% higher than Rs30.6 trillion recorded in July 2024.

Concurrently, total advances dipped 1.8% to Rs13.27 trillion from Rs13.52 trillion in the prior month. Despite this monthly contraction, advances expanded 11.8% year-over-year from Rs11.87 trillion in July 2024.

This disparity—tepid deposit growth juxtaposed with robust advance inflows—propelled the Advances to Deposits Ratio (ADR) to 38.7%, marking a 63 basis point monthly uptick. However, the ADR edged down 7 basis points compared to the previous year.

Regarding investments, total investments contracted 1.0% to Rs36.19 trillion from the preceding month. Still, they demonstrated a robust 18.9% annual increase over last year’s figures.

The Investment to Deposit Ratio (IDR) climbed 255 basis points to 105.6% month-on-month, and leaped 614 basis points higher than the same period in the prior year.
