FBR Resolves Salaried Tax Filing Glitch

FBR Resolves Salaried Tax Filing Glitch

| 12-Sep-2025

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) resolved a critical glitch in the income tax return filing system for salaried individuals following the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO)’s intervention. The issue, which mandated taxpayers to input a “correct receipt value” in their returns, has been eliminated, scrapping the troublesome requirement.

According to reports, a hearing at the FTO headquarters saw the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) team brief the FTO on the matter. Taxpayers had been plagued by persistent error messages on the IRIS portal, displaying “Please enter the correct receipt value,” which baffled even tax experts and lawyers despite repeated attempts to resolve it.

With this fix, taxpayers can now submit their income tax returns by the September 30, 2025, deadline without further obstacles. This resolution brings significant relief to the salaried class, who faced potential delays due to the glitch.

PRAL officials clarified that the “correct receipt value” condition stemmed from an FBR directive. Following the FTO’s intervention, the FBR axed the requirement, enabling seamless return filings for the 2025 tax year.

The FTO also spotlighted a new simplified return form tailored for salaried individuals, offering the choice between a simple or regular return.

During the hearing, FTO Senior Advisors directed the PRAL team to ensure that any errors on the IRIS portal during filing are clearly explained, empowering taxpayers to easily identify and address submission hurdles.
