The Sub-Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has mandated the Ministry of Finance to devise a payment plan to address the National Highway Authority (NHA)’s staggering Rs2 trillion liabilities.
Chaired by Convener Syed Naveed Qamar, the sub-committee convened on Tuesday to scrutinize audit objections concerning the Finance Division for fiscal years 2011-12 to 2022-23, while also reviewing long-pending recoveries involving the Finance Division and WAPDA.
During the meeting, Syed Naveed Qamar expressed apprehension about the mechanism for settling such an enormous sum, emphasizing the need for annual resolution. In response, the Finance Secretary disclosed that Rs217 billion of the Rs2 trillion had already been recovered.
The Secretary further noted that formulating a comprehensive payment plan with the NHA would require time and sought a two-month period to finalize it. The committee approved this request, directing the Ministry of Finance to present a detailed payment plan within 60 days.
