FBR Confirms No Tax Filing Deadline Extension

FBR Confirms No Tax Filing Deadline Extension

| 29-Sep-2025

ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) firmly rejected claims of an extension to the income tax return filing deadline for the 2025 tax year, reaffirming that September 30 remains the final date.

In a statement, the FBR addressed unverified reports circulating on media platforms suggesting a possible extension, declaring them “false, baseless, and misleading.” The authority emphasized that the deadline for income tax returns for tax year 2025 will not be extended.

The FBR confirmed that the IRIS system is fully functional, enabling taxpayers to file returns using the new simplified income tax return form.

The authority warned that taxpayers failing to file by the due date will be classified as late filers and face penalties as per the law.

In cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may request a 15-day extension, contingent on paying due taxes by September 30 and securing approval from the relevant committee.

Last week, Salim Valimuhammad, Chairman of the Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), urged an extension beyond September 30.

The FBR reiterated that no changes were made to the Income Tax Return Form-2025 via any Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) regarding the declaration of the market value of assets.
