ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) disbursed Rs767 million to victims of the New Metro City Gujar Khan housing scam during a ceremony at NAB headquarters, as reported by the state-run news agency APP.
NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed led the event, joined by Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Ehtesham Qadir Shah, senior NAB officers, and numerous affected individuals.
The funds were recovered following NAB’s probe into the project. In September 2024, NAB launched an inquiry after receiving complaints from individuals who had paid for plots in the New Metro City Gujar Khan project but were not allocated the promised land.
Through NAB’s efforts, the project management agreed to refund the money, resulting in Rs767 million being returned to 383 victims during the ceremony. Additionally, 57 victims opted for plot allotments, which have now been processed.
NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed, addressing the gathering, reaffirmed that recovering public funds lost to fraudulent schemes is NAB’s top priority. He urged citizens to exercise caution and thoroughly verify investment opportunities before committing their savings.
Director General NAB (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Waqar Ahmed Chauhan praised the Bureau’s commitment, attributing the successful fund recovery to NAB’s dedicated leadership and efforts.
During the event, NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed presented shields to the investigation team in recognition of their exemplary work on the case.
