SLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) revealed on Thursday that a staggering 5.9 million income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 were filed, surging 17.6% from last year, while firmly declaring no blanket extension beyond the deadline.
As of 7 p.m. on October 31, 5.9 million returns were logged, eclipsing 5 million in 2024. Notably, 3.6 million included payments—a 18.6% jump in revenue-generating filers.
Individuals remitted nearly Rs69 billion, up 15% from Rs60 billion last year. The FBR hailed this compliance boom as evidence of soaring public trust and tax awareness, crediting a massive outreach blitz orchestrated by the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Information, and FBR.
The campaign unleashed nationwide robocalls, WhatsApp blasts, targeted emails, and behavioral nudges to spur civic duty.
Praising taxpayers for their escalating cooperation, the FBR reiterated no universal extension per prime ministerial directive. Yet genuine hardship cases can seek relief via the IRIS portal.
The FBR vowed to further streamline filing, upgrade digital tools, and forge a fair, transparent, inclusive tax ecosystem.
