ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for shattering records with 5.9 million tax return filings in FY2025, hailing the 900,000 new filers as proof of soaring public trust in government reforms.
In a Friday statement, the PM lauded the compliance explosion as a testament to civic duty and faith in economic stewardship. “Pakistanis have placed immense confidence in our reforms—we are profoundly grateful,” he declared.
Shehbaz Sharif attributed the triumph to tax modernization and unyielding accountability, enforcing meritocracy within the FBR to reward excellence and punish mediocrity.
He revealed his hands-on oversight of FBR digitization, chairing weekly sessions to guarantee seamless, user-friendly online filing. The PM spotlighted the automated port clearance system, which has slashed corruption and turbocharged efficiency.
The Point of Sale (POS) network expansion has clamped down on sales tax evasion and shrunk the informal economy, he asserted.
Citing hard results, Shehbaz Sharif noted tax revenues surged Rs9 billion year-on-year—a ringing endorsement of the reform agenda.
“FBR transformation marches unabated,” he vowed, pledging relentless pursuit of transparency, efficiency, and corruption eradication in Pakistan’s tax ecosystem.
