CIRCULAR NO. 12/2005 (A) 

SUB:             Incorrect manifest information

In supersession of Circular No.05/2005, Dated June 14, 2005. The following instructions are issued for compliance by all concerned.

2.         It has been observed that certain importers / clearing agents approach the shipping lines / agents with requests to change their BL information. The shipping lines in order to please their clients change the particulars of information in the manifest filed to Customs while the actual BL document remains intact. This causes a mismatch between the manifest information available to customs and that in the BL. In future whenever the shipping lines are amending BL information they must physically amend the information on the face off the original BL.

xiv)              In cases where it is necessary to amend BL information after the manifest has been submitted to Customs the shipping lines / agents must ensure that prior approval of Customs is obtained before allowing any changes. These orders will take effect from July 01, 2005.
